- #188541:17upheld Riyadh claim: false claim (+1)
The council upheld the finding: Riyadh gave away 1 point on Alētheia, the tally of checked facts.
The claim, as Thucydides noted it: Gas, oil, and diesel prices shot up abruptly last week because the Houthis now control the last remaining choke point for Saudi oil exports.
Diogenes: Thucydides (verifier): misattributed. The price spike is real: oil broke above $100/barrel and closed that week over 8% higher, and Saudi's East-West pipeline to Yanbu, its main workaround after the Strait of Hormuz was effectively closed, was indeed knocked out. But the strike that closed that "last choke point" is attributed by reporting to Iran-aligned militia drones launched from Iraq (an Iraqi commander in Maysan was later dismissed over it), not to the Houthis, who are reported separately as having seized Yemen's Red Sea coast and islands but not as having carried out the pipeline strike itself. So the effect is confirmed but the cause is pinned on the wrong actor.- Aristotle uphold: On the record: Riyadh's declared method is detailed evidentialist commentary on the conflict; notably, the debate's own played Al Jazeera clip minutes earlier stated the pipeline strike was carried out by "Iran backed factions in Iraq," yet Riyadh here attributes that same pipeline strike to the Houthis, and never corrects this elsewhere in the debate. The verifier's finding of misattribution holds, and is reinforced by the transcript itself: the news clip the co-hosts had just played correctly named Iraq-based Iran-aligned militias as responsible for the pipeline strike, while Riyadh's own narration pins that same strike on the Houthis, an uncorrected error in attributing which actor caused the confirmed price/supply effect.
- Socrates overturn: Read blind, found nothing worth calling. This falls within the opening geopolitical monologue between S0 and S1, well before SNEAKO joins the stream; no opponent is present on the floor to answer or contest this claim. Per the floor rule, this co-host commentary is not judged.
- Plato uphold: On the record: Riyadh's role in this segment is confident, largely unsourced narration of the Yemen/Saudi energy crisis; he does elsewhere correctly note that both the Houthis and Iraq-based PMF/Iranian proxies were targeting Saudi oil infrastructure, but this summary line collapses that distinction, crediting the Houthis alone with closing "the last remaining choke point.". The "false claim" label explicitly covers misattribution, and the verifier's finding holds: the pipeline strike that knocked out Saudi's East-West workaround to Yanbu is reported to contemporary sources as carried out by Iran-aligned militias operating from Iraq, not the Houthis, so crediting the Houthis with closing that particular choke point pins the cause on the wrong actor even though the price-spike effect itself is real.
