- #20422:13:22overturned Isla epainos: concession (+1)
The council overturned the call, so no points were earned.
“It's a choice for sure. But it's not a one-sided choice.”
Diogenes: Isla concedes Myron's premise that pregnancy is a choice but keeps her real point of dispute, that the choice is shared. She is conceding what she was shown and holding only the claim she can still defend.- Aristotle overturn: On the record: Isla's position throughout this segment, held jointly with Penelope, is that conception is a shared act and shared responsibility; the quoted line restates that position rather than departing from or conceding any part of it to Myron's unilateral-choice framing. Isla and Penelope's position since this sub-exchange began (~120:20-120:28) was already that conception is a "50/50 choice... between a man and a woman," i.e., shared rather than sole. Isla's initial "What do you mean it's a choice?" was pushback against the implication that it is unilaterally hers, not a denial that a choice is involved at all. "It's a choice for sure. But it's not a one-sided choice" restates that same shared-choice position rather than giving ground on anything she previously disputed; nothing shows she was shown wrong and revised her view.
- Socrates uphold: Read blind, found "direct answer", on the same ledger as the callout. This is a precise answer to the actual crux of the whole segment: Myron's repeated equation of "pregnancy is a choice" with "pregnancy is therefore the woman's sole responsibility." Isla grants the true part (it is a choice) while rejecting the false implication smuggled into it (that the choice, and so the responsibility, belongs to one party alone), which is exactly the distinction she and Penelope had been pressing throughout ("how did the semen get in there?").
- Plato overturn: On the record: Isla's position since early in the pregnancy exchange (123:26, "It's a 50/50... choice... between a man and a woman;" 126:37, "there's two people that are responsible;" 127:27, "both of you") has consistently been that conception is a choice but a shared one, not solely the woman's — the line under review restates that same standing position rather than conceding a point she had previously denied. A concession requires a real prior claim shown wrong and then given up; Isla never denied that conception involves a choice, she denied only that the choice (and therefore the responsibility) is unilateral, and "it's a choice for sure, but not one-sided" is the same distinction she has held since 123:26, not new ground surrendered.
- Thesmothetes overturn: By the rule: even if: granting the claim and showing the conclusion fails. Isla had already staked out "shared choice" before this line—at [127:11-14] she answers "who choices it?" with "Both of them"—so "It's a choice for sure. But it's not a one-sided choice" is not ground given up after being shown wrong, it is her standing position restated. The move fits "even if": she grants Myron's premise (pregnancy is a choice) for argument's sake and shows his conclusion (sole female responsibility) fails anyway, and the manual is explicit that this is "distinct from a concession, which gives the point up."
