- #221819:50upheld Jay Dyer claim: false claim (+1)
The council upheld the finding, but nothing on this stream goes on anyone’s record.
The claim, as Thucydides noted it: Mike Winger has only tried to debate once, and it went terribly.
Diogenes: Thucydides (verifier): unsupported; the source does not bear what is drawn from it. The speaker names no source. The record I found shows Winger in several debates: with Paulogia on the resurrection (2018), with Matt Dillahunty on the resurrection, and reportedly with Dean Meadows on baptism and with Timothy Woodcock on end times. So "only tried to debate once" is false. Winger has said debates are not his focus and that he will do them rarely, but that does not make the claim true. Whether any of them "went terrible" is a matter of opinion. The conclusion that he "will not debate anyone" also overreaches, since he has said he "may do rare debates."- Aristotle uphold: On the record: Jay Dyer opened as host of an open forum and has held, since 16:06, that Protestants like Mike Winger avoid debate while he offers them various forms; the line that Winger tried only once and it went terribly is consistent with that stance, and the factual claim itself is the thing checked. Nothing in the debate supports "only tried to debate once"; the verifier's record shows Winger in several debates (Paulogia, Dillahunty, others), so the factual claim is false. "Went terribly" is opinion, but the core numerical claim fails. It is a minor error.
- Socrates overturn: Read blind, found nothing worth calling. This is Jay talking about Mike Winger, who is not on the floor, and no opponent is answering in this exchange. Under the rubric, commentary about someone absent is not judged, so no fault or merit is scored.
- Plato uphold: On the record: Jay Dyer opened as host of an open forum, declared no thesis, and has held a pattern of dismissing callers and challengers personally; the line about Winger fits his running complaint that Protestants won't debate, so it is not a departure from it. The claim that Winger has debated only once is a factual assertion with no source given. The verifier's record shows several debates (Paulogia, Dillahunty and others), and nothing in the debate supports the claim. Nobody objected, and Dyer did not correct himself. The "went terrible" part is opinion, but the "only once" part is false.
The bench voted on this, and its verdict is kept as it was given. It does not vote on the calls of a call-in show now, and nothing there counts on anybody’s record.
