- #222130:43upheld Jay Dyer claim: false claim (+1)
The council upheld the finding, but nothing on this stream goes on anyone’s record.
The claim, as Thucydides noted it: Carbon 60 (C60) is a powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory that supports normal post-workout recovery and general health.
Diogenes: Thucydides (verifier): unsupported; the source does not bear what is drawn from it. At 30:43 the host reads sponsor copy: "powerful anti inflammatory... Supports normal post workout recovery," with no source named. C60 does quench reactive oxygen species in the lab, but human clinical evidence is very limited. The 2012 rat lifespan result in olive oil was not replicated in later mouse studies. Nothing I found shows it aids post-workout recovery or detox in people, and a 2021 study found C60 in olive oil became toxic in mice when exposed to light. The claim is therefore unsupported, and it does not bear the conclusion that listeners should buy it as a detox or wellness additive.- Aristotle uphold: On the record: Jay Dyer opened as host of an open forum and, from 25:49 on, shifted to sponsor reads promoting his products; the called line is ad copy for C60, consistent with that promotional stance and no departure from it. The host asserted health benefits (powerful anti-inflammatory, aids post-workout recovery) as fact to sell a product, with no source. The verifier found human evidence very limited and nothing showing a recovery benefit. The claim is unsupported and stated as established, so the false claim label holds at minor severity.
- Socrates overturn: Read blind, found nothing worth calling. This is a sponsor advertisement in Jay's monologue. No opponent is on the floor answering it, and it isn't part of any exchange. The rubric says not to judge a monologue, and the health claim isn't an argument against anyone. Whether it is true is for a verifier, not a reasoning fault.
- Plato uphold: On the record: Jay Dyer opened as host of an open forum, declared no thesis, and has held a pattern of personal dismissal of callers and sponsor reads; the C60 line is sponsor copy consistent with that and does not depart from it. The verifier's finding holds: the host asserted C60 is a powerful anti-inflammatory that supports post-workout recovery, with no source, and human evidence is very limited. He did not correct it. It is a minor factual fault for an unsupported ad claim.
The bench voted on this, and its verdict is kept as it was given. It does not vote on the calls of a call-in show now, and nothing there counts on anybody’s record.
