- #222339:33overturned Jay Dyer claim: false claim (+1)
The council overturned the finding, so nothing is marked against Jay Dyer.
The claim, as Thucydides noted it: The speaker was a traditional Roman Catholic for about ten years.
Diogenes: Thucydides (verifier): unsupported; the source does not bear what is drawn from it. Dyer does say at 38:59–39:33, "I was a traditional Roman Catholic for ten years or so." The accounts of his path (Calvinist, then Orthodox catechumen, a 2008 retraction back to Rome, then Orthodox again before about 2012) put his Catholic period at a few years at most, not ten. I found no source for ten years. His broader point, that he watched the Overton-window tactic from inside, rests on that unsupported self-description. I did not open the pages themselves, so this is a best reading and not a firm refutation.- Aristotle overturn: On the record: Jay Dyer opened as host of an open forum and has held that role, moving to news commentary; the called line is a personal biographical claim made in passing, which neither departs from nor is contradicted by anything in the debate. The verifier admits he did not open the pages and gives only a best reading, with no firm refutation. The accounts he cites are secondhand and ambiguous about the length of Dyer's Catholic period. The finding is a toss-up at best, so the fault is not shown and the call is overturned.
- Socrates overturn: Read blind, found nothing worth calling. This is Jay's monologue on Roman news, with no opponent on the floor answering it. The line is a biographical aside, used only to back his remark about the Overton window. It isn't an argument to be judged under the floor rule.
- Plato overturn: On the record: Jay Dyer opened as host of an open forum, declared no thesis, and has held a pattern of dismissing callers and a running commentary on rivals and Rome; the line about his past as a traditional Catholic is a personal aside, not a departure from that stance. The verifier admits it did not open the pages and calls its finding only a best reading. It found no source for the ten years, but a missing source is not a showing of falsehood. Dyer's own account of his past is plausibly self-knowledge, and the sources cited are secondary summaries. The rubric overturns a toss-up on whether the fault happened, so this call is overturned.
The bench voted on this, and its verdict is kept as it was given. It does not vote on the calls of a call-in show now, and nothing there counts on anybody’s record.
