- #22361:13:26upheld Jay Dyer claim: false claim (+1)
The council upheld the finding, but nothing on this stream goes on anyone’s record.
The claim, as Thucydides noted it: What Ahmadinejad actually said was that the Zionist regime needs to be pushed into the sea, not that Israel should be wiped off the map.
Diogenes: Thucydides (verifier): misquoted; the source does not bear what is drawn from it. The Persian is rendered literally as "this regime occupying Jerusalem must vanish from the page of time," attributed to Khomeini. Nothing in it speaks of the sea or of pushing anyone into it. Translators dispute whether "wiped off the map" is fair (Cole says no; others say it conveys the sense), but "pushed into the sea" is in neither version. The "dumb propaganda debate" conclusion rests on a quotation the speech does not contain. The real dispute is over "vanish from the page of time" versus "wiped off the map."- Aristotle uphold: On the record: Jay Dyer opened as host of an open forum, moved to sponsor reads and conspiratorial, anti-Western-media news commentary, and has held that stance since; this line is a flat factual claim about Ahmadinejad's words, consistent with his stance but not a position of record. The verifier found that "pushed into the sea" appears in neither translation of the 2005 speech (the literal Persian is "vanish from the page of time"). Jay Dyer stated it flatly as what Ahmadinejad "actually said" and used it to call the debate propaganda. Nobody on the floor objected and he did not correct it, so the finding holds.
- Socrates overturn: Read blind, found nothing worth calling. Jay is commenting over a played clip of Candace Owens' husband and others, and no opponent on the floor answers him. Under the floor rule it isn't judged. The Ahmadinejad claim is a contested factual aside, not a move in an exchange.
- Plato uphold: On the record: Jay Dyer opened as host of an open forum, declared no thesis beyond Orthodox presuppositionalism, and has held a pattern of dismissing callers and running geopolitical conspiracy commentary; this line about Ahmadinejad fits that commentary and does not depart from it. The verifier's finding holds: the Persian original says the regime occupying Jerusalem must "vanish from the page of time", and "pushed into the sea" appears in no translation. Jay offered that wording as what Ahmadinejad "actually said", and no one corrected it. It is a minor factual error, since the real dispute over "wiped off the map" does exist.
The bench voted on this, and its verdict is kept as it was given. It does not vote on the calls of a call-in show now, and nothing there counts on anybody’s record.
