- #22582:19:37upheld Jay Dyer claim: false claim (+1)
The council upheld the finding, but nothing on this stream goes on anyone’s record.
The claim, as Thucydides noted it: A video went viral that shows TD Jakes checking out a male stripper's backside.
Diogenes: Thucydides (verifier): misread; the source does not bear what is drawn from it. The viral clip I found shows a police officer dancing to "Single Ladies" while Jakes stands smiling with a hand in his pocket. The reports say nothing of him checking out a stripper's backside. That is a crowd's reading of an ambiguous clip, not what it shows. Jakes's camp called the related Diddy allegations "unequivocally false," and Snopes found some of the rumor videos were partly AI-made. Even if the clip were as described, a glance at a performer would not support the conclusion that public figures with millions of followers should be presumed gay until proven straight. That is a sweeping presumption, not an inference from evidence.- Aristotle uphold: On the record: Jay Dyer opened as host of an open forum and, after the sponsor reads, held a conspiratorial, anti-establishment commentary stance. The TD Jakes line is a flat factual claim that fits that stance and does not depart from it. Thucydides checked the viral clip and found it shows a police officer dancing, with Jakes smiling and a hand in his pocket. It does not show him checking out a stripper's backside. Jay stated the claim flatly and nobody objected, so the finding holds and the claim is unsupported.
- Socrates overturn: Read blind, found nothing worth calling. This is Jay's monologue reacting to a super chat about TD Jakes, who is not on the floor, and no opponent is answering it, so the floor rule applies and it isn't judged. The viral-video claim is a factual aside and not an argument against anyone present.
- Plato uphold: On the record: Jay Dyer opened as host of an open forum, declared Eastern Orthodoxy and a presuppositionalist method, and has held a running pattern of polemic, dismissal of rivals and offhand factual claims; the TD Jakes line is more of that and does not depart from it. The verifier found that the viral clip shows a police officer dancing while Jakes stands smiling, not Jakes checking out a stripper's backside. Jay stated it as fact and did not correct it, so the claim is unsupported by the source. This is consistent with how I ruled on his other unsupported factual claims.
The bench voted on this, and its verdict is kept as it was given. It does not vote on the calls of a call-in show now, and nothing there counts on anybody’s record.
