- #23911:50upheld Jay Dyer claim: false claim (+1)
The council upheld the finding, but nothing on this stream goes on anyone’s record.
The claim, as Thucydides noted it: The sponsor's carbon 60 is the only one of its type that is purely black; other versions are purple because they are diluted.
Diogenes: Thucydides (verifier): unsupported. Dyer says of the sponsor's product: "It's the only one of this type that is purely black. A lot of the versions of it are purple because they're diluted." He names no source. The claim is about the product's color and is marketing copy. Solid C60 is black, and C60 dissolved in oil looks purple to magenta, so color mainly reflects concentration. That makes a dark color a weak sign of quality. I found no independent evidence that this brand is the only black one or that purple versions are "diluted" in any meaningful sense.- Aristotle uphold: On the record: Dyer opened as an Orthodox Christian conspiratorial commentator whose thesis is that elite programs, pharma and media degrade the population. The sponsor read on carbon 60 colour is advertising outside that thesis, so it neither departs from it nor corrects it. Dyer said at 110:27 that this C60 "is the only one of this type that is purely black" and that others are purple "because they're diluted." No source or reason was given, and he did not retract it. Thucydides' finding holds: colour mostly tracks concentration, so it is a weak sign of quality, and nothing shows that this brand is the only black one. It is a minor unsupported factual claim, and it stands.
- Socrates overturn: Read blind, found nothing worth calling. This is another line from the carbon 60 sponsor read, which is advertising copy. No opponent is present to answer it, and it does not bear on any live question in the debate. The claim is unsupported, but the floor rule means it can't be called.
- Plato uphold: On the record: Jay Dyer opened with conspiratorial cultural commentary (pharma, social media, MK Ultra-style engineering of the population) and has held it throughout; the sponsor read for carbon 60 is ad copy outside that thesis and neither fits nor departs from it as an argument. He said the sponsor's product is the only purely black one and that other versions are purple because they are diluted. He named no source, and this is marketing copy about the product's color. Thucydides' finding of unsupported holds. The quote is close to what he said at about 110:27, though the listed timestamp is off. The fault is minor.
The bench voted on this, and its verdict is kept as it was given. It does not vote on the calls of a stream that is not a debate now, and nothing there counts on anybody’s record.
