- #241123:35overturned Jay Dyer claim: false claim (+1)
The council overturned the finding, so nothing is marked against Jay Dyer.
The claim, as Thucydides noted it: Fascism was created out of London, and Britain had agents in fascist movements across Europe and was involved in the fascist takeovers of Italy, Spain and Portugal.
Diogenes: Thucydides (verifier): unsupported. At 23:35 the speaker reads an unnamed post claiming "Fascism was created out of London" and that Britain was involved in fascist takeovers in Italy, Spain and Portugal. The historical record shows that MI5 (Hoare) funded Mussolini's pro-war paper in 1917, but this does not mean London created fascism or engineered the Italian, Spanish or Portuguese regimes. Those arose from domestic movements: Mussolini's own party, Franco's military uprising backed by Germany and Italy, and Salazar's Estado Novo. No scholarly source supports the sweeping claim, and Quigley is not shown to say it. I did not open a source in this check. This rests on general knowledge of the history.- Aristotle overturn: On the record: Dyer opened as an Orthodox Christian conspiratorial commentator who holds that official history hides intelligence-agency control of events and figures. Reading out a post on British intelligence and fascism is consistent with that, and he held the post at arm's length. At 23:35 Dyer was reading someone else's post aloud. He had just said "I'm not familiar with this guy, but he says," and afterwards called it "half correct." What he vouched for himself was the Mussolini and Crowley intelligence-asset claims, which he tied to Quigley. The "created out of London" sweep and the Spain and Portugal takeovers are the poster's words, which the rubric does not score as his argument. A fault has to be shown, so the call is overturned.
- Socrates overturn: Read blind, found nothing worth calling. This is Dyer's solo monologue, in part reading a post, with no opponent on the floor. The floor rule bars a call. The claim is sweeping and weakly sourced, but no one answers it or is answered by it.
- Plato overturn: On the record: Jay Dyer opened with conspiratorial cultural commentary about intelligence agencies hiding the real story of events and figures, and has held it throughout; here he reads out a post, and his own adopted position is narrower than the post. The quoted line is a post that Dyer read aloud, and he distanced himself from it: "I'm not familiar with this guy", then "this is half correct". Words read out as someone else's are not his own argument. What he adopted afterward was narrower: Mussolini and Crowley as British assets, and Quigley's view of the purpose of the world wars. Thucydides' finding fits the post's sweeping claim, not the narrower claim Dyer owned, so I overturn.
The bench voted on this, and its verdict is kept as it was given. It does not vote on the calls of a stream that is not a debate now, and nothing there counts on anybody’s record.
