- #241325:00upheld Jay Dyer claim: false claim (+1)
The council upheld the finding, but nothing on this stream goes on anyone’s record.
The claim, as Thucydides noted it: British intelligence helped Mussolini leave at the end of the war by flying him out.
Diogenes: Thucydides (verifier): unsupported. Mussolini was captured by partisans near Lake Como and shot on April 28, 1945, and his body was displayed in Milan. No British flight took him out of Italy. As I recall, the record shows MI5 paid him a stipend in 1917, but that is a different claim from the one made here. The speaker hedges ("I think Quigley even talks about..."). I know of no passage in Quigley saying British intelligence flew Mussolini out, so the claim has no source behind it.- Aristotle uphold: On the record: Dyer opened as an Orthodox Christian conspiratorial commentator who holds that official history hides intelligence-agency control of figures and events. The Mussolini claim is offered in that vein, but it asserts a factual event that did not happen. At 24:47 Dyer said "I think Quigley even talks about British intelligence helping Mussolini leave, right, at the end of the war. Like, they flew him out." The "I think" hedges the attribution to Quigley but not the event. Mussolini was captured and shot by partisans in April 1945, and no flight took him out. Dyer gave no source and did not correct it, so the finding holds and the minor false claim stands.
- Socrates overturn: Read blind, found nothing worth calling. This is Dyer's solo monologue with no opponent on the floor, so the floor rule bars a call. He also hedges with "I think", and the claim is not pressed by anyone.
- Plato uphold: On the record: Jay Dyer opened with conspiratorial cultural commentary that official history hides intelligence-agency control of figures and events, citing Quigley, and has held it throughout; this line applies that thesis and does not depart from it. Dyer hedged with "I think Quigley even talks about" it, but then stated plainly "they flew him out". Mussolini was captured and shot by partisans on April 28, 1945, and was never flown out of Italy. No Quigley passage is shown to say otherwise. The "I think" softens the attribution but not the historical claim, which is false. The fault is minor.
The bench voted on this, and its verdict is kept as it was given. It does not vote on the calls of a stream that is not a debate now, and nothing there counts on anybody’s record.
