- #24293:16:05overturned Jay Dyer claim: false claim (+1)
The council overturned the finding, so nothing is marked against Jay Dyer.
The claim, as Thucydides noted it: After leaving the military Gary Heidnik became a serial killer and collector who boiled the flesh of victims and ate it, and he also became a pimp prophet.
Diogenes: Thucydides (verifier): unsupported. Heidnik did become a killer after the Army (two captive women died) and founded a church, the "United Church of the Ministers of God." But the article has him cooking parts of Sandra Lindsay's body (ribs baked, head boiled). It does not say he ate any of it. The feeding of ground flesh to captives is alleged, and his defense attorney said it was invented. He is not described as a pimp or a "collector," and he was not trained as a military police officer (he was rejected for that). "Pimp prophet" and "ate it" are not borne out. The speaker names no source.- Aristotle overturn: On the record: Dyer opened as an Orthodox Christian conspiratorial commentator who ties serial killers to military drug and intelligence programs. His Heidnik summary is part of that thesis and was read alongside a documentary's account. The core of the line, that Heidnik left the military and became a serial killer who cooked and ate flesh, matches widely reported accounts. Thucydides himself says the feeding and eating is alleged and that his attorney disputed it, so the finding is contested, not shown false. "Pimp prophet" is loose but comes from a documentary-style riff about his sex-slavery and church, and no clear falsehood is shown. The call fails the standard that a fault must be shown, so it is overturned.
- Socrates overturn: Read blind, found nothing worth calling. This is Dyer's solo commentary over a documentary, with no opponent on the floor, so the floor rule bars a call. It is a descriptive aside, consistent with my earlier rulings on his monologue.
- Plato overturn: On the record: Jay Dyer opened with conspiratorial cultural commentary about military and intelligence programs behind serial killers, and has held it throughout; this line is a quick recap of the Heidnik parallel, drawn from the documentary, and does not depart from it. The core of the line is on record: Heidnik became a killer after the Army, boiled and cooked parts of a victim, and founded a church. Whether he ate the flesh is contested in accounts of the case, and "pimp prophet" is a loose label for a man who kept captive women and led a church. Thucydides' finding goes against the details Dyer added, but those details are not shown to be false, only not confirmed by the Wikipedia summary. Whether the fault is shown is a toss-up, so I overturn.
The bench voted on this, and its verdict is kept as it was given. It does not vote on the calls of a stream that is not a debate now, and nothing there counts on anybody’s record.
