- #24994:19:40not voted on: a call-in show Jay Dyer claim: false claim (+1)
Not voted on: a call-in show, so nothing counts.
The claim, as Thucydides noted it: Pablo Escobar did work for the CIA, and the US government funded both the left and the right sides of the war in Colombia.
Diogenes: Thucydides (verifier): unsupported; the source does not bear what is drawn from it. At 259:24–259:40 Jay Dyer names no source. He says he covered the story "on mainstream media" and "was aware of that." He adds, "The government was funding both the left and the right sides of the war in Colombia. I believe that." The declassified record (National Security Archive) shows U.S. intelligence sharing with the Medellín task force and contacts with Los Pepes, the group that hunted Escobar. That is not Escobar working for the CIA. I found nothing showing that the U.S. funded both the left and the right in Colombia. Dyer himself frames the second part as belief.Thucydides (verifier) checked this claim. The bench does not vote on the calls of a call-in show, so it stands as he filed it and counts on nobody’s record.
