Appeal: false claim

- #260846:19upheld a speaker not yet confirmed claim: false claim (+1)
The council upheld the finding: a speaker not yet confirmed gave away 1 point on Alētheia, the tally of checked facts.
The claim, as Thucydides noted it: Women cannot think logically and rationally; emotion always supersedes their logic, because a barrier of emotion stands in front of the logical part of the brain.
Diogenes: Thucydides (verifier): unsupported; the source does not bear what is drawn from it. No source was named. The article says there is no significant sex difference in average IQ or in general or fluid intelligence. A 2012 review states "No evidence was found for sex differences in the mean level of g or in the variability of g." It reports only small task-specific differences, with women somewhat better on verbal tasks and men on visual-spatial tasks. Nothing there supports "cannot think logically," and nothing supports an "emotion barrier" in front of a logical part of the brain. The step that God made women this way, so they cannot lead, rests on that unsupported premise. This is a secondary summary, not the primary studies.- Aristotle uphold: On the record: S22 (the speaker the record calls S1) opened by defending Islamic practice as obedience to God's command, holding that men lead and women are subordinate; the called line, that women cannot think logically, extends that headship position with a factual claim and does not depart from it. The line is a flat factual claim that women cannot think logically and that an emotion barrier sits in front of the logical part of the brain. It is contested in the room, since the women object to it. No source or reason is given for it, and the verifier finds the literature does not support it. He did not correct it. It is false or unsupported as a matter of fact, so the call stands as a minor false claim.
- Socrates uphold: Read blind, found "bare assertion", on the same ledger as the callout. S22 makes a sweeping, contested claim about all women. He offers no evidence or source for it, only the "barrier in front of the logical part of the brain" image and "that's the way God created you guys". He then uses it to say women should be silent and cannot lead. The only nearby datum is that the women objected to how his words sounded, which does not show the general claim. Because he builds his conclusion on it afterwards, it is a bare assertion and not a declared starting premise.
- Plato uphold: On the record: The speaker (S22, the voice of S1) opened by saying he fasts because God prescribed it and has held that men lead and women submit as obedience to God's command; the called line is a factual claim about women's cognition, offered as the ground for that headship, and so extends his stated position rather than departing from it. The claim that women cannot think logically, with an emotion barrier before the logical part of the brain, is a checkable factual claim. No source was named, and the verifier found the research shows no difference in general intelligence and only small task-specific ones. Nobody objected on the point and the speaker did not correct it, so the finding stands.
